4th of July Celebration

We'll kick off the festivities with our annual 4th of July parade starting at 9:30 a.m. We'll gather at the corner of Charles Stewart and Washington Brice, then we'll follow a rescue vehicle down to the pool parking lot. Shortly after we convene in what can only be described as a patriotic tornado of bikes, scooters and children, there will be a brief award ceremony. The categories for the patriotic parade are: Betsy Ross Boss - Most creative use of the flag 1776 fix - Most Historically Accurate By Abe Lincoln's Beard! - Most honestly entertaining Washington's wheels - Most patriotically pimped ride Ole Glorious Glitter - Most Artistic Pre-school Patriot - Most Patriotic toddler Freedom isn't free - Most extravagant costume Patriotic Pet - Best example of patriotism on 4 legs Later in the day - head to the pool to celebrate independence with your neighbors exactly as the clock strikes noon as we attempt to recreate the drag race from Fast and The Furious using children and rafts, then watch our offspring try to forge the pool in old cardboard boxes(noon) and large Tupperware containers Macgyver style.(12:15) See all the raft race rules below. *KONA ICE will be serving treats to our members from 1-2pm on July 4th. (Our treat to you) We hope to see all our members there. Remember - come early as it's not unusual for us to hit pool capacity on holidays and we don't want you to be left out. Reminder - no guests on holidays. RAFT RACE RULES Cardboard Regatta: For this contest/race you have to make a boat out of cardboard. No flotation devices are permitted. Hint…..Buy plenty of duct tape. Basically, you can’t use anything that will aid in the flotation of the boat (noodles, plastic, etc), and the boat MUST only be propelled by wind or oars (e.g. swimmers can’t push/pull). Homemade raft race: For the less crafty or ambitious people, we will also have a homemade raft race. The rules are pretty easy; make a homemade raft out of just about anything (e.g. Boogie boards, noodles, other rafts, etc). For the race part, all participants must be on the raft paddling with their hands, feet or paddles (at least partially – no swimmers pushing the boat along).
